CBD, THC, Marijuana. These are a few terms that may or may not be familiar to you. There are numerous myths surrounding CBD and its benefits. Well, this article debunks some CBD myths. To be clear, there is a difference between CBD and THC. Today's focus will mainly be on CBD myths.
CBD is controversial to most people, and several misconceptions about its uses and benefits. Over the last decade, CBD has been prescribed by several doctors to help treat some of their patient's conditions and symptoms. This use has proven to be on the rise as a lot of people are reaching out to use CBD to treat their medical conditions.
With all this taken into consideration, let us debunk some myths.
Myth #1 CBD gets you high
This myth is widely known and it is not true. CBD doesn't get you high because it doesn't have the psychoactive effect of its counterpart, THC. Though some people who have smoked CBD may feel a little “lighter” and calm, it does not get you high. CBD comes from hemp which has a high level of CBD and little trace of THC.
Myth #2 CBD tastes bad
We could argue this myth because I believe it is relative. One of the great things about CBD is: it comes in different forms, and you don’t have to taste it to feel its full benefits. There are numerous CBD products out there specifically made to accommodate everyone.
If you don’t like the taste of pure CBD, you could get the capsules instead. Capsules are a better choice for beginners to CBD. If you prefer something either than capsules, CBD herbal-infused tea could be the best option.
You can get the tea in different flavors. If you don’t like the taste of our CBD, try other alternatives.
Myth #3 CBD is a narcotic
This is not true. In November 2020, the European Court of Justice published a judgment stating that cannabidiol extracted from the cannabis plant should not be considered a drug under the 1961 United Nations Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs.
Cannabidiol can be qualified as food, provided that the other conditions of the EU Food Safety Regulation are also met.
Myth #4 Works right away
Like most medications and supplements, CBD doesn’t work immediately. You need to understand that it will take time as it has to go through your system to break down before it can start working. There is research currently being conducted into developing a CBD product that’ll work instantaneously, so you feel the effects quickly.
Myth #5 Doesn’t cause any side effects
CBD is generally considered safe. However, if you are using CBD with other medications, it could affect its function. You need to be careful when using other medications.
That is why it is recommended to consult your healthcare provider and let them know of any other medications you’re on before you start taking CBD, as it may cause side effects or not work at all. Getting the proper prescription will help tremendously.
Myth #6 Doesn’t work
Your body produces substances called endocannabinoids that are similar to the cannabinoids found in Cannabis plants. Your natural biochemicals activate receptors in different parts of your body, where they trigger specific reactions, and improve your health.
The active cannabinoids in CBD products bind with the same receptors, causing the same beneficial effects. This is according to the Rheumatology Pacific Center.
CBD can help ease these conditions:
• PTSD
• Inflammation
• Anxiety
• Headaches
• Depression
• Insomnia
Myth #7 CBD and Marijuana are the same
Both hemp and marijuana belong to the same species, Cannabis sativa, and the two plants look somewhat similar. However, substantial variation can exist within a species. After all, Lions and Tigers are both cats, but they have obvious differences.
The defining difference between hemp and marijuana is their psychoactive component:
Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. Hemp has 0.3% or less THC,meaning hemp-derived products don’t contain enough THC to create the “high” traditionally associated with marijuana.
CBD is a compound found in cannabis.
An overview
There will always be myths going around if people don't make the effort to educate themselves. It is, therefore, important to understand that myths shouldn’t be taken seriously without proof. If you have any questions about CBD, or aren’t sure of its benefits or composition. Ask Licensed pharmacists, do some research, read blogs, and consult with your physician before you take any CBD product.
The point is, the CBD industry is still growing, and there is a lot of misinformation about it. We hope this article sheds some light, and that you have a better understanding of CBD.
